Colleague Functionality Tips

Font Size:

  • For ease of viewing (& to prevent eye strain !!), you may increase (or decrease) font size on every screen in Colleague
  • Location: the Font “Form Scale” slider (looks like a volume slider) is located just to the right of the Cancel All button
  • Once you have a record open on a screen, adjust the Font slider up or down to your liking
  • BUT --- do not increase it so much that you get scroll bars at the bottom of the screen or on the right side of the screen. You still want to be able to view the whole window, edges included. That way you know you are seeing every field that is housed on a screen.
  • You only have to adjust the font size once per screen. The next time you return to a screen, it will remember the font size setting from your last visit to the screen

Close a Resolution Screen:

  • If you look up a record in Colleague but end up not selecting anyone, you can close the Resolution Screen in two ways:
  • Use your Escape key on your keyboard (top left)
  • Click the 2 up-facing arrows on the bottom left of the resolution screen
  • You are then returned to the LookUp box

Change Color Scheme:

  • For your viewing pleasure, you may change the default color scheme in Colleague
  • Go to: Options → Preferences → Layout & Colors
  • Open the Color Theme drop-down menu
  • As soon as you select a color, right below you see what it will look like
  • Once you find a color you like, click Apply, then click OK
  • If you don’t see anything you like, you may just click Cancel & the default color will remain

Header Block/Context Card display:

  • The recommended display mode for the Header Block/Context Card in Colleague is “Auto-Close Context
  • The default setting in Colleague is “Keep Context Open”
  • To select Auto-Close Context:
    • Access the drop-down box (below & to the left of the Header Block/Context Card)
    • Select “Auto-Close Context”
  • Search mode:
    • Form search - keeps your setting of Auto-Close Context
    • Person search – automatically uses Keep Context Open
  • Benefits of Auto-Close Context:
    • confidential info does not stay open (i.e. SSN & cell phone #)
    • you start w/ a fresh LookUp every time (if the last record stays open in the Header, then you may forget you still have that last record still active when you go back into that screen or another screen --- you might end up making a change [i.e. Name, addr, student info, HR info, etc…] to the wrong record without even realizing it)
