Copy/Paste in Colleague
Copy/Paste into Colleague is not usually recommended (especially for names). The paste can introduce “special” char-acters into Colleague, behind the scenes. If you have to copy/paste (say, a news article), then always be sure to save all the way out & then go back in to “correct” any special characters.
Quotation Marks:
If it’s not the correct type of quote, special characters will populate the screen after you save out. It may be hard to dis-cern, but the more sideways facing quotes will cause the issue; the more up & down oriented quotes are usually safe. To be sure, always backspace & retype all quotation marks.
Also, never use an accent in someone’s name (i.e. Rene') (i.e. Thérèse). Visually, this may look ok on BIO, but can cause data corruption behind the scenes.
Quotation mark examples:
Paste: St Peter’s
Saved: St Peter?s
Correct: St Peter's
Paste: “Nonnie”
Saved: ?Nonnie?
Correct: "Nonnie"
Name Paste from a website (example):
Paste (looks like on web): Brookwood High School
Saved (looks like on ORGP): Brookwood High School
Stored behind the scenes: Brookwood High School^013^010
